Anna Maria Stratman in front of her home in Africatown, Alabama. Africatown, located in Mobile, was founded by enslaved africans who arrived on the Clotilda slave ship more than 50 years after the Atlantic slave trade was abolished. In 1860, the Clotilda was intentionally sunk to hide evidence. In 2019, the ship was rediscovered.
